When you decide to buy or specify a
flagpole for commercial or residential use it’s important that you
make the right decision.
Residential poles designed for the
homeowner range between 15 & 25 ft tall. 20 or 25ft flagpoles balance
perfectly with a two storey house and are both lightweight and easy to
install
Commercial grade flagpoles from 25ft and
above are designed with a wider butt and are well suited for location
in front of office buildings, factories, sports arenas etc.
Yard arm and gaff poles are very popular
along the coast in both residential and commercial settings
Our Alliance Fiberglass poles are
finished in a brilliant white finish making them a graceful compliment
to all buildings, both classical and modern.
What do I need to consider when choosing
a FLAGPOLE?
1.
Your location.
2.
Height of the Pole
3.
Wind Speeds
4.
Foundation
5.
Security
What makes one pole different from
another?
1.
What it’s made from.
2.
It’s height
3.
It’s finish and or color.
4.
It’s technical specification (Butt
diameter, wall thickness etc.)
5.
Halyard system (internal or external)
6.
How it is fixed/installed.
Is everything included?
All Alliance poles are sold complete with
all accessories including the ground sleeve.
What do I need to install?
You will need to source your own concrete
for the foundation and sand and wooden wedges to align the pole within
the ground sleeve.
How much of the pole goes in the ground?
Always allow for 10% of the height of the
pole in the ground. A 30’ pole is actually 33’ total length, allowing
for 3’ in the ground. For further information please see our technical
pages and installation details.
Are all poles one piece?
Alliance manufacture their 20 and 25ft
poles in one section. All poles above this height are available in one
or two sections.
Do I need to take my Alliance fibreglass
flagpole out of it’s packaging when I get it?
We recommend you take the pole out of
it’s packaging only to inspect it has not been damaged in transit.
Can I store my Alliance fibreglass pole
in it’s packaging outside before I install?
Yes you can. Unlike the aluminium pole
the gel coat finish on the fibreglass pole does not react with any
chemical in the packaging and is therefore not vulnerable to
discoloration.
Can I dig and set the foundation and
install the pole in one day?
We recommend that concrete should be
allowed to cure properly before the pole is installed. It may on
occasion be possible to dig and pour the foundation and install the
pole on one day depending on the curing time of the concrete, location
of the pole etc. In all circumstances we would recommend flying your
flag at least a day after the pole is installed and not before.
*****Should I seal the gap between the
pole and ground sleeve when it’s installed?
Yes, the ground sleeve needs to be sealed
with a waterproof compound to keep out water. Wet sand might make the
pole shift.
*****SHOULD THE WOODEN WEDGES BE LEFT IN
OR TAKEN OUT WHEN THE INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE?
The wooden wedges should be removed after the pole is set in sand.
This allows for the natural movement of the pole as it vibrates in the
wind. Also removal of the wedges provides a more even stress point for
the pole.
How much space should I allow around the
pole?
Your flag size will dictate how near or
far you will need to be from the nearest object. It’s a good idea to
allow plenty of space particularly if you will want to fly a larger
flag at a later date. It’s also a good idea to consider proximity to
trees and bushes.
Do I need to ground a fibreglass
flagpole?
Unlike Aluminum fibreglass does no
conduct electricity and therefore it is not necessary to ground the
pole.
